Choosing your Vehicle Region
SpeedCam AI’s make/model recognition is trained on a worldwide vehicle catalog of 300+ entries spanning 47 countries. To keep results accurate, the app filters this catalog to the vehicles actually sold in your region, so a Tokyo user won’t see false matches for vehicles only sold in the US, and vice versa.
How it works
By default, SpeedCam AI uses your iPhone’s region setting (the same one that controls App Store country and default formats) to pick the right vehicle subset. If you’re in the US, you’ll see North American vehicles; in Germany, European; in Japan, Japanese-market vehicles; and so on.
When to change it manually
- Traveling. Driving in another country temporarily? Switch to that region (or to Worldwide for the broadest catalog) so foreign rentals and imports get recognized.
- Imported vehicle. If your car was imported from another market (a JDM-spec Skyline in California, say), pick the region it was sold in.
- Thin regional coverage. Some markets currently have lighter coverage than others. If your captures aren’t being identified, try Worldwide. It considers every vehicle in the catalog regardless of market.
How to change it
- Open the SpeedCam AI app.
- Go to the Settings tab (gear icon).
- Under the Display section, tap Vehicle Region.
- Pick a scope (see the table below).
- Changes take effect immediately on the next capture.

No regional filter
Considers every vehicle in the catalog regardless of market. Useful for travel or thin regional coverage.
What if my vehicle isn’t recognized?
The detector and speed measurement work for every vehicle, regardless of make/model. Make/model recognition is an overlay. If your specific vehicle isn’t in the catalog, the make/model field will be blank but everything else (speed, time, location, color, body type, image) is captured normally. You can also tap any prediction in the incident detail screen to correct it; the app remembers and applies the correction on similar future captures, all on-device.
Will more vehicles be added?
Yes. Each app update may include catalog refreshes that add coverage for newly-released vehicles or markets where current coverage is thin. The app downloads catalog updates automatically as part of normal updates. No action required from you.
